Guidance Office
At The Catholic High School of Baltimore, we value the importance of providing every student with an academic advisor. Every Catholic High student is assigned to an academic advisory class, which meets in a small group setting with a faculty advisor as part of the regular school day schedule. The advisory group provides additional support to students as they strive toward academic excellence, responsible leadership, and Christian community service. It provides another venue where a caring adult can address shared issues and concerns, and by doing so help clear the way for our students to excel in every aspect of their learning at Catholic High.
While it is not practical to list all of the possible topics that the academic advisory group will address, some of them include:
- Study and organizational skills
- Goal setting
- Becoming a motivated learner
- College and career planning
- Responsible use of social networking sites
- Can anyone be a leader?
- What is responsible leadership?
- Critical thinking skills
- Maturity and personal responsibility
These and other topics will be generated by students as they articulate the challenges they find most important to their lives as students and young women. In addition to these group-oriented topics, advisors will meet with students individually to discuss their academic progress.
