Kathy Kleiman Visits Catholic High

Kathy Kleiman, historian and founder of the ENIAC Programmers Project, will be sharing her documentary about the first women programmers with some of our STEM students. Second Look Day for 8th Graders

On Monday, February 13, Catholic High will host a Second Look Day for 8th grade applicants from 8:30 a.m.- 12:30 p.m. (lunch included). We will tailor a student's time here to her particular interests. For Example, if an applicant is interested in STEM, she can spend most of the day in STEM classes, or if she loves STEM and Art, she can split her time between the two.

Cubs End Winter Athletic Season Strong

Congratulations to Ellie Gonzalez '14 who placed first in the 1-mile and 2-mile events at the IAAM Championships on Friday, February 3. She set a league record for the 1-mile with a time of 4:58. Ellie also won first place at the Gerogetown Prep Invitational on Saturday, February 4 and set a new record in the competition for the 1-mile with a time of 5:03.

Congratulations to Varsity Cheerleading for winning 2nd place at the IAAM Competition on Saturday, February 4. Gabriella Polsinelli '12 and Brooke Haley '14 were named Shining Stars.

Congratulations to Varsity Swimming for having several athletes medel at the IAAM Championships on Sunday, February 5. Amanda Borowy '12 placed 8th in the 100-Free and 6th in the 100-Breast. Abbey Kane '15 placed 8th in the 100-Back.

Squeak Etoys Workshop

Bob Roswell, co-founder of System Source, an IT training facility in Hunt Valley, visited the Computer Programming and Digital Engineering students on Wednesday, February 1. He walked them through Squeak Etoys workshop in which the students learned basic object-oriented programming skills to create visual media-rich projects. The students also accurately drove a car around a race track by using programming objects and methods in the Etoys program. They simulated the use of a joystick to manuever the car and a radar detector to avoid crashing into the perimeter of the track.

The Catholic High School of Baltimore plans to implement the Squeak Etoys program into a future middle school STEM workshop.

Brittany Winborne ‘12 Scores 1,000 Points

Brittany Winborne '12 is now the third Catholic High basketball player to score 1,000+ career points. On Monday, January 31, Brittany overpassed her 1,000 point mark in her Senior Farewell game against Friends. She currently has 1,004 points with four more games left before the Championships. As Brittany broke this record, fellow record-holder, Mary Cay Hamilton '85 (1,004) was present with her family to show her support. She also presented Brittany with a plaque. Tracey Hellman '90 was also honored for her record of 1,056 career points.

Catholic High is pleased to welcome Peerce's Catering who will replace Garrison Dining Services on Monday, January 30. Peerce’s Catering offers 100% al a carte items, including soup, hot entrees, deli, salads, grilled foods, and pasta each day. The menu continues to include healthy options such as vegetables, fresh fruit, and vegetarian choices. The use of the Cub Card remains the same.
